SPRING 2016 PARENTING SERIES

SPRING 2016 PARENTING SERIES

Next up in our Spring Parenting Series:

April 28 : Author talk and BooksigningTim Hollister.  Thursday April 28th 6:30-8pm.

Award- winning author of Not so Fast: Parenting Your Teen Through the Dangers of Driving,   th724BOAPCWhen Tim’s son Reid was killed in a car accident in 2006, it inspired Tim to become an advocate – not just for safer driving practices, but for parents learning to support the new drivers in their families. Tim has since toured the country with his advocacy work.

The Bowdoinham Public Library, through the support of a local CHIP grant, has 10 copies of this book, available to area libraries, schools, or other organizations that serve teen drivers. The books will be available for signing and distribution to representatives of those agencies at the talk on the 28th. First come, first served!

Tim HollisterHollister has received national public service awards from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Governors Highway Safety Association. He has appeared on the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, the Home and Family Show on the Hallmark Channel, and Kyra Phillips’ Raising America on HLN.

thF59VDNXXHollister’s latest book is titled “His Father Still; a parenting memoir”.  Tim began the journal writing that would become this book, in the immediate aftermath of Reid’s death in 2006.  While it chronicles the loss and grief Tim and his family experienced, it focuses on the parenting relationship that Tim shared with Reid- a relationship that was brought into focus, changed, challenged and reformed in the days before and then after Reid’s tragic death.  The book holds universal truths and hopeful messages which make for inspiring reading.

Are you parenting a child with a learning disability? Parenting an adopted child? Or are you just doing your best to parent a teenager?  You will feel that warm sense of empathy as you listen to the words of this dad.

Books will be available for purchase at the event. Anyone who would like to read the book prior to the event is encouraged to come to the library and borrow a copy.

Edible Book Festival 2016!

Edible Book Festival 2016!

EdibleSealBowdoinham’s participation in the International Edible Book Festival was a huge success!

We had 19 entries, from both adults and kids.  We had sweet and savory. We had cakes and we had salads.  We had interpretations of titles and we had puns!  Most of all, we had fun.  And everyone wants to do it again next year, so file away those ideas and we’ll see you on April’s Fools Day 2017.

Congratulations to Susie Drucker, who’s gorgeous interpretation of Winnie the Pooh was the “People’s Choice” Winner by a huge margin.  Caitlyn Johnson was awarded Second Place for her beautiful cookies inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Fern Beede and Olivia Cox worked together to make the prize-winning Harry Potter cake among the kids. Thanks to Lisa Wesel for instigating the madness and making it all happen.  The Caterpillar may have been hungry, but we weren’t! The food was delicious!
